Until a few years ago, fishing and agriculture were the main
economic activities. Agricultural production is traded in large part through
the Cooperative Agricultural Estepona, one of the oldest inSpain.
You can find all kinds of production of vegetables, greens,
and especially lemons, having only recently have been introduced to tropical
crops—mainly avocado. The most common seafood is sardine, anchovies, clam, and
mussels.

is tourism, especially residential tourism, which has caused a high growth of
many foreign residents and the local economy.

The book fair is put on the promenade of the town, with
books that are sold at lower prices than in other seasons.

Second week of February: Carnival
May 7: Pilgrimage ofSan Isidro
Labrador
This shrine was worshiped during the pilgrimage, the town’s
patron, and a mass. This shrine is located in the park “the rocks.”
The festival of the pilgrimage is to spend a day together
with family or friends in the park from morning until night. The typical meal
of the day is “soup campera, sausages, and black pudding. The typical drink is
the sangria, made with wine, soda, lime, sugar, and a variety of fruits. There
is a lot of group singing and dancing, all while ringing bells.
June 23: they burn the “juas”San Juan
On the night of June 23, every township of the municipality
celebrate to remember something that has happened during the year. With these
representations is a contest, everyone competes for first prize—the ultimate
burn.

The milestone for themunicipality ofEstepona
is celebrated on this day.
Since 1990 Our Lady of Mount Caramel has the honor of being
named patron and mayor of the town ofEstepona.
In honor of Antonio Dorado Soto, there is a morning Mass,
celebrated by three priests of Estepona, as well as a dozen priests who join
the celebration in the Parish of Our Lady of Mount Caramel.

Banda Municipal de
Musica
La Banda Municipal de Musica de Estepona, directed by José
Manuel Bernal and comprised of 65 musicians, is considered one of the best
bands in the province
of Malaga.
Summer Concerts are, among others, are the most significant
events that are offered to the public throughout the year, highlighting the
various works of different types and times to be interpreted every Sunday
during the summer.
Food
The typical Andalusian dishes are skewered sardines,
fried anchovies, octopus, and salt. Also, because of its agricultural
highlights, campera soup and goat cheese.
