3000 m of the Sierra Nevada. Integral to Sierra
Nevada as is known is a route that begins in the Jerez Marquesado
in the northern mountains and ends at Niguel, in the west. Its name comes from
passing through almost all the peaks over 3000 m high. Although it does not
require a great technical ability, it is not recommended for inexperienced
climbers because of the physical demands of the route.
Route Sulayr. Sulayr
path is a path length of 340 km surrounding Sierra Nevada,
designed and promoted by some public institutions, which have recovered several
traditional villages and cattle.
Shelters and Lively
There are three shelters served:
Refuge Poqueira:
2,500 m altitude, situated at the confluence of the Mulhacen Seco
River and the Hoya’s
Black Rock River on the Barranco del Poqueira. It has a capacity of 87 beds.
The closest population is Trevelez and Capileira.
Besides the well-known ski resort of Sierra
Nevada, there are many leisurely opportunities in this place.
There is a season of skiing, much less known in the Port of Ragua,
and countless hiking trails. Some of the most famous routes are:
Vereda de la
Estrella. La Vereda de la Estrella is a path that runs alongside the banks
of streams that head the Genil
River and offers
interesting views of the northern mountains.
Refugio Postero Alto:
1.880 m above sea level, located in Loma Enmedio, near the town of Jerez Marquesado. Has a
capacity of 68 beds.
Hostel Puerto Ragua:
2.000 m high, located in the A-337 that connects the region of the Marquesado
Zenete with the Alpujarras. It has a capacity of 32 beds.
In addition, there are several other shelters, although some
are in poor condition: The Carihuela, La Caldera, Rosales, Elorrieta, Pena
Partida, La Cucaracha, The Vadillo, Barranco del Aceral, El Caballo, and El
Chullo.
There are also some natural shelters or caves: Cave Secret, Seven Lakes,
and Tunnel Veleta.
