Teba Festivals

Since 2005 people have been celebrating the Days of Sir James Douglas to commemorate the death of the famous Scots count in making the Star Castle. Throughout two days various cultural activities are held, and they are fun and festive, with a prominent involvement of the British community in the Costa del Sol and Gibraltar.

In 2007 the conference in honor of Sir James Douglas had been held on September, 15 and 16, to which a large number of Scots attended. The 20080Days of Sir James Douglas celebration took place on September 14 and 13, and there was a growing influx of foreign visitors than there had been at past celebrations.

Fiestas and Traditions

The festival (fair) in honor of the patron saint of the village, Santo Toribio de Liebana, is held through August 10, 11, and 12. It also honors the town’s patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario, on October 7, with a procession through the streets of the town.

The weekend following May 15 (except when May 15 is on a weekend) is a pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador. The saint is carried from the village to “Guateba,” horticultural traditionally held on the banks of the River Guadalteba, about 4 km from the town. There are all kinds of festive activities held during the weekend in which all visitors and many tebenos practically live there.

Finally, we also note also artisans who inhabit Teba, many of whom are part of the board, the locksmith’s art, the work of the spar, along with the palm and the mother and the work of stone and marble.

Various other sporting activities are rowing, canoeing, and fishing in the river Guadalteba, while the mountains of Caramel and Penarrubia are areas suitable for mountain biking, hiking , escalation, or cave exploration.

Teba has very good conditions for the practice of free flight. It is possible to fly to the Levant, north and west. In the west is an off-conditioning, and there are support facilities for this purpose.

Artisan Cheese Fair in Teba

Also a very important event with a growing reputation is the Artisan Cheese Fair, an event set in Teba that provides samples of the best cheese in Andalusia and elsewhere in Spain. The event is held on the first weekend of October, and the 2008 edition of the fair resulted in more than 10,000 people.

All these parties provide the excellent tebena cuisine, with typical dishes such as the baton, the “lavapuertas” soup. “jervia,” roast lamb, and delicious sweets, all prepared from local produce such as asparagus, honey, fresh cheeses, or pork derivatives.
