Today, Alora is a town that has managed to blend the traditional with the modern natural and spontaneous way.

It is located in the Cerro de las Torres. From the outside of the castle you can enjoy extraordinary views of the Valle del Guadalhorce. The castle was declared a national monument in 1931. It was built by the Arabs during the Middle Ages, although its origins are from Phoenician and Roman times.

The tower of  the gateway is the entrance to the walled enclosure, which is accessed by a horseshoe arch, the only one in the West. In the castle there are two distinct precincts. First, regular and uniform (top site) with 6 square towers, built at the time Califal. By contrast, the second site is much more irregular.

It had to be formed by walls that surrounded the first compound. Nearly all have now disappeared. Between the two enclosures, one can find a square tower called Torre de la Vela with a square and divided into three bodies that are decreasing in height as they rise. Also in the Castle Chapel of the Nazarene, whose peculiar history puts it in the main mosque in Arab times. After the re-conquest it was converted into a Christian church dedicated to Our Lady of the Incarnation.

The primitive church was built after the conquest and in 1492 was completely finished. This former church is Gothic, and was composed of three naves. What has remained to this day of that first church is the altar. Since 1641 the chair of the altar sat in this old church of the Nazarene Torres, but disappeared during the Civil War.

In 1945 came a new image by the Perote Navas Parejo Nazarene. Since 1953 it is accompanied by the Virgin of Animas (the same artist, but work that was completed by his son because of his death).

You can also see the so-called Tower of Homage. El Adelantado de Andalucía, Diego Gomez de Ribera, arrived here in 1434 as head of his troops, who surrendered before the city fell but he died when the advance front of the walls. These scenes would become known as frontier romance that has taken the name of this city around the world and we can see it written on the entrance to the castle.

It is one of the largest churches in the diocese, after the Cathedral of Malaga. It was built above the top of the mosque which was at one time the castle. As the village was changing and the neighborhoods grew, it became necessary to construct another church that was better placed

Convent of Our Lady of flowers

The Shrine of Our Lady of Flores is in the suburbs, about 2 km from the town of Alora,. From here you can enjoy a wonderful and unique landscape. On the left, the Sierra de Abdalajís; in front, and the Poplar Virot. In the background, El Torcal. And behind, Mount Width, Sierra de Aguas and the Sanctuary.

 The church has a nave altar where there is a dressing room with interesting Baroque plasterwork lies in that the image of the Virgen de Flores. This was brought by the children of  Encinasola accompanying the Catholic Monarchs during the conquest. This image has been well restored.

 

It was agreed the building would take place in the Plaza of the Baja Its construction lasted almost a century, between 1600 and 1699. The church has a rectangular plan with 3 naves separated by robust Tuscan columns, which turned pointed arches with paintings of skinny apostles. Three sample images are sculptural highlights, Jesus Crucified, by Navas Parejo, who presides over the High Altar, a, the ship of the Epistle and the Gospel, a San Francisco de Asis, in polychrome wood. In painting we see in the Chapel, the Descent from the Cross and Purgatory, and in the aisles, Our Lady of the Conception, Crucifixion.

Iglesia de la Veracruz  is located in Calle Veracruz, it was built to commemorate the victory over the Moorish rebels. Its construction was financed by the sale of twelve Moors. The facade is divided into three sections. In the first, the cover is off in terms of the facade. In the second stage we have some lines that stand leading up to the pinnacles of the third body. The latter also has a one-vain gable to house the bell. This church has undergone numerous restorations made to alter a high percentage its original state.

The Crown of the monolith is a bronze sculpture consisting of a guitar embraced in a shawl, from which a low waterfall flows over the stones. Surrounding the source, this comprehensive package artistic railing as a staff with musical notes on a Malaga. Four major ornamental lampposts and a beam of light illuminates colorful Monument. To highlight its importance is located at the entrance of Alora opposite the Teatro Cervantes and with wonderful views of the Valle del Guadalhorce. Alongside the Monument, a centenary olive testifies both honor and privilege.
Bachelor Aljibe Museum is a place is known for the oldest of Posada. The name comes from the mill's first owner, Bachiller Gonzalo Perez, who was very influential in Alora in the sixteenth century,. The well is one of the elements that make up the ancient Mill.

Calvary Chapel, Lightning that destroyed the original chapel where it is now currently located in Calle Calvario. Created to house contemporary shrine to Our Lady of the Orchard, asculpture by Luis Alvarez Duarte.

Capilla de Santa Brigida is in the neighborhood of the station. Here is a venerated image of Nuestra Senora de la Cabeza, of Alora, along with Our Lady of Flores. The entrance, which has a half point arch, is decorated by a brick plinth and gable has two curved overhangs on both sides ending in a pinnacle each.

Hermitage Towers integrated into the Arab castle, a conserved structure of Gothic orogin, in which are images of our Father Jesus Nazareno de las Torres and Viregen Santísima of Animas.

Museum Alora Rafael Lería, a great place to learn about the history and artistic heritage. Located in the School of Christ, building annexed to the Parish of the Incarnation, in the Lower Plaza. Was probably the chapel of the Hospital de San Sebastian, you can see a selection of archaeological items that cover the history of Alora.
