The origin of the name ‘Coin’ is an unresolved issue, it maywell result from a gradual reduction of a theory made by the scholar VirgilioMartinez, related to his knowledge of the existence of the Berber family, whoselineage dates back to Cordobaduring the ninth century.

This theory is plausible, although notcertified. Some past writings suggest that many different names have been givento this locality at various times in its history, including Diganse, Succubo, Lacibis, Alizcuan and Al-Cohine
