Until a few years ago, fishing and agriculture were the maineconomic activities. Agricultural production is traded in large part throughthe Cooperative Agricultural Estepona, one of the oldest inSpain.

Second week of February: Carnival

May 7: Pilgrimage ofSan Isidro Labrador

This shrine was worshiped during the pilgrimage, the town’spatron, and a mass. This shrine is located in the park “the rocks.”

The festival of the pilgrimage is to spend a day togetherwith family or friends in the park from morning until night. The typical mealof the day is “soup campera, sausages, and black pudding. The typical drink isthe sangria, made with wine, soda, lime, sugar, and a variety of fruits. Thereis a lot of group singing and dancing, all while ringing bells.

June 23: they burn the “juas”San Juan

On the night of June 23, every township of the municipalitycelebrate to remember something that has happened during the year. With theserepresentations is a contest, everyone competes for first prize—the ultimateburn.

The milestone for themunicipality ofEsteponais celebrated on this day.

Since 1990 Our Lady of Mount Caramel has the honor of beingnamed patron and mayor of the town ofEstepona.

In honor of Antonio Dorado Soto, there is a morning Mass,celebrated by three priests of Estepona, as well as a dozen priests who jointhe celebration in the Parish of Our Lady of Mount Caramel.

Banda Municipal deMusica

La Banda Municipal de Musica de Estepona, directed by JoséManuel Bernal and comprised of 65 musicians, is considered one of the bestbands in the province of Malaga.

Summer Concerts are, among others, are the most significantevents that are offered to the public throughout the year, highlighting thevarious works of different types and times to be interpreted every Sundayduring the summer.

Food

The typical Andalusian dishes are skewered sardines,fried anchovies, octopus, and salt. Also, because of its agriculturalhighlights, campera soup and goat cheese.
