Fuengirola

The coastal town of Fuengirola is generallylow, with an altitude ranging between 0 and 5 meters, except the districts ofLos Pacos, and Torreblanca Carvajal, located north in an area of hills.

Southwest border with themunicipality ofMijas is theFuengirola river, which flows into the city.

This is an eminently urban municipality, as the urbanized area covers almostall of the 10km ² of the municipality. The old town is situated around thePlaza of the Constitution.

Fuengirola is a townin theprovince ofMalaga. Located on thewest coast of the province in the region of theCosta del Sol and integrated townships in the commonwealth of the same nameand is the head of the judicial district of Fuengirol.

The township has an area of 10 km ², almost completely urbanized, and anaverage height of 5 meters. With a narrow coastal strip of about 8 km long,with beaches oriented southeast. With 68,646 inhabitants according to thecensus of 2008, is the fifth most populous municipality in the province and oneof the highest density towns inEurope, withmore than 6,800 inhabitants per km ².

Founded by the Phoenicians, Fuengirola was passed on by the Romans, Byzantines,Visigoths and Arabs among others, before joining the Crown of Castile in 1485.Being a small fishing village, it was a segregated from the town ofMijas in 1841.

At present,Fuengirola is a major tourist centre for about 250,000 people during the summermonths and whose economy revolves around this sector. Located 30 km southwest of the city of Malaga,the town ofFuengirolais bordered to the north with the towns of Benalmadena and Mijas.

To the north is the old fishermen’sdistrict of Los Boliches, and about two other newer neighbourhoods: Myramar,San Cayetano, El Boquetillo, Pueblo Lopez, The kernel and above Los Pacos, and Torreblanca Carvajal. To the west are the suburbs of Las Lagunas, and in thetown ofMijas,but part of that same urban Fuengirola.

The climate is subtropicalMediterranean, withannual average temperatures of 18 ° C, annual precipitation of 500 l / m², and3,000 hours of sunshine per year [8].

As of January 1, 2008, Fuengirola has afigure of 68,646 inhabitants in the municipality. Of these, over 30% are fromother countries, mainly European countries (UK, Ireland,Finland andSweden,among others),Morocco,South American countries (Ecuador, Colombia,Argentina ) andChina. Demographic trends
