Ronda Festivals

In Ronda there is held three annual music festivals. The Festival de Cante Grande is dedicated to flamenco. It takes place in August and is the oldest city and one of the oldest in Andalucia, which began in 1968. The International Folk Gala 2009 was held for its thirty-sixth edition.

It is organized by the Cultural Association Abul-Beka Folk Songs and Dances of Ronda, and is dedicated to folk music from aRonda the world. Finally, the Summer Festival “Music and Sunsets” is held regularly, although not every year.

Other cultural events are: the International Scientific Film Biennale organized by Unicaja; the painting contest launched in 2005; Love Letter Competition Established in 2008; the Group Exhibition of Artists from 1988; Cofrade Art Fair, begun in 2009 and the Book Fair, held in November. In addition, Ronda is one of the venues for the summer courses at the University of Malaga.

Popular Events

Ronda has traditionally held festivals in Andalusia and other parts of Spain, such as the Three Kings Parade, Carnival, Holy Week, Corpus Christi and several fairs and pilgrimages. La Semana Santa de Ronda has been declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

From the religious point of view, it is one of the most important events that occus every year in the city, celebrated on the week of the first full moon of spring. The week runs from Palm Sunday until the following Sunday which is Easter Sunday, adding up to 15 full processions made up of 14 fraternities, among them: Holy Wednesday with the brotherhoods of Our Lord Jesus in Column; Maria Santisima de la Esperanza and the former brotherhood of silence.

On Holy Thursday are brotherhoods of the Vera + Cruz, Ecce Homo and The Cristo de la Buena Muerte (The Legion) and, at dawn, the Brotherhood of Our Father popular Jesus of Nazareth and the Virgin of Dolores. The fairs take place in May (May Fair), September (Feria de Pedro Romero) and October (Feria de San Francisco), of which the September fair has been declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

The first Sunday of July sees the pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Cabeza take place and in May, two processions of the Virgin of Peace and the Virgin Mary Help of Christians. In June they celebrate the Corpus Christi and Corpus Chiquito.

Of the festivals celebrated in the parishes, highlights are the Fiesta Grande de Serrato and Old Day, also Serrato. In Puerto Elder, along with Acinipo, there takes place the celebration of Romania, set in Roman times in which they recreate the clothing, food and other traditions.
