Riogordo

Riogordo is a village belonging to the region of Axarquia which is 40km from Malaga and 30km from Velez-Malaga (capital of the Axarquia). Its altitude above sea level is 405 meters, bending from north to south. The greatest heights are the Tagus detacadas of Gomer (1,129m), Sierrecilla del Rey (972m), Sacristy Hill (620m) and the slope of Terral (573m).

Their celebrations in honor of San Jacinto and Our Lady of Grace in August summon thousands of civilians from all corners of Europe. There is also a very famous representation of the Passion of Jesus known as “El Paso”, held every Friday and Holy Saturday. It has swimming pool, library, ethnographic museum, school (Our Lady of Grace) and a cooperative olive, which produces one of the best oils in the province.

Culture

The most important cultural event in this town is the representation of the passion and death of Jesus (El Paso) which is regarded as a festival of national tourist interest. Currently involved are more than 500 amateur actors from their own locality and it takes place in an outdoor enclosure of 8000m2.
