Teba Festivals

Since 2005 people have been celebrating theDays of Sir James Douglas to commemorate the death of the famous Scots count inmaking the Star Castle. Throughout two days variouscultural activities are held, and they are fun and festive, with a prominentinvolvement of the British community in the Costa del Sol and Gibraltar.

In 2007 the conference in honor of SirJames Douglas had been held on September, 15 and 16, to which a large number ofScots attended. The 20080Days of Sir James Douglas celebration took place onSeptember 14 and 13, and there was a growing influx of foreign visitors thanthere had been at past celebrations.

Fiestasand Traditions

The festival (fair) in honor of the patronsaint of the village, Santo Toribio de Liebana, is held through August 10, 11,and 12. It also honors the towns patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario, onOctober 7, with a procession through the streets of the town.

The weekend following May 15 (except whenMay 15 is on a weekend) is a pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador. Thesaint is carried from the village toGuateba, horticultural traditionally held on the banks of the River Guadalteba, about 4 km from the town. There areall kinds of festive activities held during the weekend in which all visitorsand many tebenos practically live there.

Finally, we also note also artisans whoinhabit Teba, many of whom are part of the board, the locksmiths art, the workof the spar, along with the palm and the mother and the work of stone andmarble.

Various other sporting activities arerowing, canoeing, and fishing in the river Guadalteba, while the mountains of Caramel and Penarrubia are areas suitable for mountain biking, hiking, escalation, or cave exploration.

Teba has very good conditions for thepractice of free flight. It is possible to fly to the Levant,north and west. In the west is an off-conditioning, and there are supportfacilities for this purpose.

ArtisanCheese Fair in Teba

Also a very important event with a growingreputation is the Artisan Cheese Fair, an event set in Teba that providessamples of the best cheese in Andalusia and elsewhere in Spain. The event is held on thefirst weekend of October, and the 2008 edition of the fair resulted in morethan 10,000 people.

All these parties provide the excellenttebena cuisine, with typical dishes such as the baton, the lavapuertas soup. jervia, roast lamb, and delicious sweets, all prepared from local producesuch as asparagus, honey, fresh cheeses, or pork derivatives.
