
Torrox Culture & Festivals
The feast of crumbs began to be held in 1980 and the
Ministry of Tourism and Sport established by decision on 20th April
1999, that the Directorate General of Development and Tourism Promotion, declared
it the Fiesta of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
On August 5th is the festival honoring the
town's patron saint, La Virgen de las Nieves and San Roque, together with the
Festival Internacional de Coros y Danzas. The second week of August the Morche fair is

This pilgrimage coincides with the Tourist Day on which the
tourist is the protagonist and the various activities take place for the
enjoyment of all visitors. On June 24th
it is customary to spend the night on the beach to celebrate the festival of

Torrox has also been dedicated to handicrafts,
always aimed at the utilitarian needs of farmworkers, dominated by basketry
cane, esparto, palm and olive stalk. Wicker, sisal and leather are the three
most common forms of handmade chairs. The Forge maintains its historic
character, forged fittings, balconies, railings and forges the field, as
amocafres, hoes, spades and pickaxes. In addition the enormous range of modern
crafts are exhibited and sold mainly in the handicraft market of the promenade
during the summer months.


In Torrox there takes place every year in late July a
meeting of the Bands, organized by the Cultural Association of Music Lives of
Torrox, in order to promote and foster musical culture in the same municipality. For this event
every year a number of invited bands come from different parts of

In February, as everywhere, the Carnival is celebrated. With its
concentration at Murga. There are always at least 3 clusters in 2007 with the
appearance of the Murga "La Banda" murga "the overseer" and
the troupe "Pena La Marea".
The fair is held the first weekend of October.
The day of the crumbs, declared a national tourist festival
is celebrated the last Sunday before Christmas. The crumbs are a
traditional dish prepared with olive oil, garlic cloves, water, semolina flour
and salt, accompanied by the typical arriera salad consisting of oranges, tomatoes,
onions, cod, olives, olive oil, salt and vinegar.
